60-Second Coaching Tips

Purpose Before Shot

Do not begin with "What shot can I play?" Begin with "What does the situation need?"

Main Coaching Tip

Purpose first. Shot second.

Why It Matters

When players start with a favorite shot, they often force the wrong option for the head and score situation. Defining purpose first improves decision quality because it narrows choices to those that actually solve the problem. It also reduces indecision under pressure because line and weight are chosen for a clear reason.

Try This on the Rink

Before stepping on the mat, answer one question out loud or silently: what does this bowl need to change? Then pick a tactic, then the shot. After delivery, review whether the choice served the purpose, even if execution was imperfect. This builds stronger tactical habits quickly.
